T-shirt "Poznanian doesn't share Rogal" (Unisex)
November Eleventh Law
Legend has it that in Poznań, alongside the Eleven Commandments and the Seven Deadly Sins, there's one unwritten rule that's more important than all the others. Children, adults, and even the pigeons in the Old Market Square know it. The rule is simple: You don't share a croissant.
You can ask a Poznań resident to lend you money (which is difficult). You can ask for a ride across town during rush hour (which is risky). But never, ever ask for a bite of a St. Martin's croissant.
This t-shirt is a souvenir of the famous "Incident at Aunt Jadwiga's" from 2023.
It was a chilly November morning. The entire family had gathered in Poznań for the name day celebration on Święty Marcin Street. The table was laden with decorations: pumpkins, cinnamon sticks, dried oranges, and steaming coffee (exactly as in the photo). At the center of it all was a massive Croissant cake, gleaming with icing and sprinkled with nuts.
Wojtek, the head of the family and a Poznań native by birth, has just lifted his fork to cut himself his first, well-deserved slice.
Suddenly, my cousin from Warsaw, unaware of anything, asked innocently: "Wojtuś, can I have a piece? I'll just try it."
Silence fell upon the room. The only sounds were the ticking of the clock and the distant chimes of bells. Wojtek froze, his fork in midair. He looked at his cousin, then at the croissant, then back at his cousin. His face betrayed no anger. It expressed deep, existential astonishment.
He slowly put down his fork. He stood up, took off his woolen sweater, which he wore under that black T-shirt. He pointed at the inscription.
"Anna," he said calmly but firmly. "It's not stinginess. It's tradition. You don't taste the croissant. You experience the croissant. In its entirety. Alone."
The next day, cousin Ania received a package from Wojtek—it contained coffee, a blue scarf, and a whole, unopened box of croissants. Along with a note: "For your own tasting."
You see, a Poznań resident will gladly buy you a whole croissant. He'll give it to you as a gift. But he'll never, ever share his own.
